Sierra Norte

Sierra Norte is one of the many regions of the Community of Madrid formed by several valleys: Valle Alto del Lozoya, Valle Bajo del Lozoya- with the popular Atazar Reservoir, Valle Medio del Lozoya, Sierra de la Cabrera, Sierra del Rincón- declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO- and Valle del Jarama, near the famous Hayedo de Montejo.

Through the territories of the Sierra Norte de Madrid flows the Lozoya River, although the Jarama River also flows partially. The course of the Lozoya River is interrupted by the interconnected reservoirs of the Lower Lozoya Valley (Pinilla, Riosequillo, Puentes Viejas, El Villar and El Atazar) which makes it an important source of water supply for the province of Madrid.

We must not leave behind the gastronomy of this town with dishes with a taste of tradition and products of the land: beans, sweet breadcrumbs, beans zeroyas, puches, white beans with ear and pig's trotter, onion black pudding, sweet omelet, stewed cabbage and mantecadas.

Cycle touring through the villages of the mountains of Madrid: Montejo de la Sierra, Torrelaguna, Lozoya, Valdemanco, Braojos de la Sierra, Buitrago de Lozoya, Somosierra, Patones or Rascafría. Any time of the year is good for rural tourism.
