Alcalá can be easily reached by train from the city of Madrid or you can spend the night before in one of the many and varied accommodations offered by the city. This is a suggested urban route to discover Alcalá de Henares and all its cultural richness, for which the municipality is included in the program of World Heritage of the Community of Madrid. The route begins at the train station, and will take you into the city declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, the birthplace of Cervantes is an ideal place to stroll, visit its museums and monuments, eat in one of its good restaurants, and take a souvenir of some typical sweets. Get on the road to the Palacio de Laredo, it is located very close to Cercanías Renfe, on Estación street. The building is striking because it is reminiscent of another one called El Capricho, designed by Gaudí and located in the Cantabrian town of Comillas. It houses, in addition to the Cisneriano Museum, a documentation center, dependent on the University of Alcalá.

The next stop takes us to the outskirts of the city to discover the remains of the castle of Alcalá la Vieja, the most important Islamic enclave preserved in the region of Madrid, are on a hill near Alcalá de Henares that is reached through a hiking route through the valley of the Henares River.

Continue the route that will take you back to the city center where the archaeological park of Complutum is worth a visit. There are the remains of the Hyppolytus House dating from the late third century AD. It was a school and leisure center for young patricians, with a thermal area and a garden. It highlights a mosaic with a fishing scene. Other points of the city that you should not miss are: Alcalá Cathedral, Cervantes' Birthplace Museum and Cervantes Square.
