Construction on the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Chinchón began in 1534, but it was not completed until 1626.
In its interior, we can distinguish different architectural styles: Gothic, Plateresque, Renaissance and Baroque.
The church suffered significant damage to its roof and ornamentation during the Peninsular War. Francisco de Goya painted The Assumption of the Virgin, placed in the centre of the high altar in 1812, at the petition of his brother Camilo, the chaplain of this church.
