The Sierra de Guadarrama is a region of the Community of Madrid located in the eastern half of the central system. A large part of its territory is included in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park -with the Peñalara massif- and the Biosphere Reserve of the Cuenca Alta del Río Manzanares.
This demarcation is of interest for active tourism with a great amount of possibilities to enjoy nature and leisure.
One of the best ways to get to know this area is through cycling routes that you can combine with high mountain hiking trails to tour the peaks of the mountains.
The visitor centers of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park offer the necessary information to organize the visit. Don't forget to visit the Peñalara cirque and lagoons, the Barranca Valley, the Navacerrada passes or the Fuenfría Valley.
Another attraction of this town is its gastronomy, which is highlighted by the beef with Protected Geographical Indication and the pure goat cheese made with freshly milked milk from the Guadarrama goat species.
The towns that plague this area -El Escorial, Navacerrada, Manzanares El Real, San Lorenzo del Escorial, Valdemorillo, Cercedilla, Soto del Real, Miraflores de la Sierra, among others- are home to species such as the black vulture, the mountain goat, the Iberian imperial eagle or the Elizabethan butterfly.
